No one is teaching them to think!

I returned some reflection papers to my Grade 12 Economics class today.  They were not thrilled when I told them they the papers were somewhat devoid of critical thought.

It seems today’s student knows how to read and summarize very well, however, they are lacking somewhat when it comes to expressing original ideas on paper.

I have been using a class wiki for current events.  It has been very successful, however, I am now thinking of asking each student to maintain a blog for the course.  This would allow them to express themselves and it would encourage original thought as they would only be blogging about economic events they are interested in.
